The Royal Train

Royal Crest by MalB.

Over the years, three of the most famous and prestigious trains in the world have been entrusted to HG crews, The Royal Mail TPO, The Orient Express and The Royal Train.

There are others of note such as The Northern Belle and The Mary Queen Of Scots rake, however these are not as well known outside of the UK.

The one common aspect of all of these workings, used to be the Locomotive's, all of which I have Driven and some of which are detailed here......

47 798 'Prince William'

This is one of two Class 47's that were, in their heyday, dedicated Royal Train Locomotives, the other being 47 799 'Prince Henry'.

Under the auspices of EWS and in their twilight years of service, these Loco's became 'common user' and could be seen on any traffic as required, this generally being VSOE or Royal Mail work.

Our example of 47 798 'Prince William' is bulled up with white wheels and pipe work, silvered buffers and immaculately clean ex-works paint finish.

This Loco. is of Heljan origin and has been 'slimmed' to correct the original Chassis error at manufacture !

798' also carries a full digital on-board sound system and can be seen working on and around our layout with either the VSOE, Royal Train or EMU Translator's !
